Things got very egg-citing one chilly Tuesday night earlier this month at The Canonbury pub, as 21 top UK chefs battled it out in the fifth annual Scotch Egg Challenge. The place was packed to the rafters with eager egg fans, including a number of London’s most influential chefs and restaurateurs, in addition to an esteemed panel of judges comprising Evening Standard’s food critic and Queen of the London restaurant scene Fay Maschler, journalist and food writer Zoe Williams, Guardian food editor Bob Granleese, restaurateur Henry Harris and ‘restaurant guru’ Hugh Wright.
Our very own Tom Humphries was amongst the contenders, producing the little beauty pictured below, which you can try for yourself on our bar menu available all day every day. Best of all, his Pork Shoulder and Fennel creation scooped second place! We couldn’t be more pleased or proud. Well done Tom!
Our resident quizmaster Daniel Lovett hosts our weekly quiz every Wednesday, from 8pm. There is a £50 bar tab up for grabs for the winning team and a special prize for best team name. Plus we serve up a seasonal variety of pie each week, served with mashed potato & liquor. See below for more info.

Although the previous owner made vast improvements to the pub in only very recent times, we were still keen to put our own stamp on the place before reopening and also bring a bit more of a traditional feel back in.
