Arguably the epicentre of London’s craft brewing movement, Hackney has become home to some of the capital’s best-loved breweries. Hackney Brewery have been blazing a trail over there since 2011, and have not only established themselves as one of London’s most innovative brewers, but also our personal favourites. Which is why we are truly honoured and excited to be hosting the launch of Hackney’s 1000th brew at The Gipsy Queen on 29th January. We hope you’ll join us for this seminal event, when you’ll be able to meet the brewers themselves, sample their 1000th Brew as well as some of their other beloved brews and kick up your heels to some live sounds.
Things got very egg-citing one chilly Tuesday night earlier this month at The Canonbury pub, as 21 top UK chefs battled it out in the fifth annual Scotch Egg Challenge. The place was packed to the rafters with eager egg fans, including a number of London’s most influential chefs and restaurateurs, in addition to an esteemed panel of judges comprising Evening Standard’s food critic and Queen of the London restaurant scene Fay Maschler, journalist and food writer Zoe Williams, Guardian food editor Bob Granleese, restaurateur Henry Harris and ‘restaurant guru’ Hugh Wright.
Our very own Tom Humphries was amongst the contenders, producing the little beauty pictured below, which you can try for yourself on our bar menu available all day every day. Best of all, his Pork Shoulder and Fennel creation scooped second place! We couldn’t be more pleased or proud. Well done Tom!
